WatermelonFrom the cucurbit family, watermelons are herbaceus annual plants with a prostrate or climbing nature and with a very spread root system. Leaves are deeply lobed, flowers are yellow lonely and they atract insects with their bright color, smell and nectar.
Watermelon fruit has red flesh, consistent, sweet and very juicy, which is not surprising if considering 92% of watermelons is water.
To detect its maturity point color is the key, fruit should be deep green, not dull and skin should be relatively smooth, it must have a distinctive creamy-yellow area, where the watermelon rested on the ground during its maturation process.
Watermelon contains the highest level of Licopen than any other fruit, this is the responsable compound for the red color of the pulp. This carotenoid is a powerful antioxidant, and combined with a healthy and balanced diet it helps to prevent many diseasses.
Each fruit varies from 20 - 45 Lb per piece, with a rectangular shape and medium seeds either brown or black.
